Back to School Safety Tips

Back to School Safety Tips

The kids will be heading back to school before you know it, so it’s important to be properly prepared. Whether your child is walking, biking, or riding in the car, these back to school safety tips can help ensure they arrive at school without a scratch on them.

Walking

Students walking to school should stay on the sidewalk whenever possible. If a sidewalk isn’t an option, walk on the side of the street towards oncoming traffic. Parents would do well to walk to school with their children to ensure they know the safest way and take proper precautions. Older walkers should keep their eyes on what’s in front of them, not on a smartphone device.

Biking

Biking is an efficient way to get exercise while heading to school. Bikers should wear a helmet at all times. Watch for cars and make sure to use proper hand signals when turning. Wearing bright clothing can make it easier for drivers to see bike riders on foggy and dark mornings.

Riding

Parents driving their kids to school have a few safety precautions to take as well. Make sure all passengers have their seatbelts fastened. Obey the laws of the road. Do not pass buses that are picking up students. Leave enough space for students to safely board.
